my first plants

Postby draijia » Sat Jan 21, 2006 1:23 am

Ok, ive planted about 8 plants, one is growing, 2 just sprouted. Im waiting for the rest to pop up any day now. Im growing them in my closet and later im gonna transfer some out side hopefully. If it ever stops snowing..... I got my closet to stay at about 75 F. I think thats pretty good considering the actual tempature of my room is like 55 with a chill  . Im just using 2 four foot shop lights with two 75 watters right now. Ill have to work on my lighting as soon as i get some more cash thou. Heres a picture of my main baby right now. Its been growing above ground for 5 days now. Ill take more pictures tommorow of the hole set up.

ok man congrats on your first grow, now some advice.
your plant is streaching alot growing upwards to catch the light so get those lamps on it they can be VERY close to the plant even touching it if needed so get them a few inches above your plant and get a fan on it if you havnt already, and dont post the pics up like that size em down first took me like half an hour to wheel to the bottem

im sorry i couldnt wait for that pic to load. im on dial up and that thing was just HUGE.. resize to about 400x600. but from what i did see, u defn want to put an oscilating fan on those things.. they will start to fall over soon. u want ur lights about 2 Inches away from the plants. and that soil looks REALL dry..

ok i added water to make the soil all over in that box moist, I put the lights really close like u guys said. I put a small fan by the plant. But now i have a few questions, with the lights that close to the plants wont it cause them to dry out fast? With the fan by the plant it now moves a lil, isnt that bad?

florescents dont put off shit for heat. so dont worry about that.. Fans making it move, its Suppose to. what that does is causes the stem to get tiny fractures in it, then it heals those fractures and makes the stem stronger. thats how u get HUGE STalks on outdoor plants.. wind makes them stronger.

Ok i have some good news and some bad news, 2 of my other plants sprouted, so thats 5 growing . Now for the bad news. Im not sure what it means but now that i put the lights real close to the main plany like u guys suggest the leafs like are aiming up.... Is it dieing? are u sure those lights wont try it out? I mean it raises my closets temps from 60 to almost 80 in there. help please!

They are truning up because they are trying to get more light, most likely
As far as temps, that sounds like a big jump in temp for FL. I only went from 75 Deg to 80 when I put my 250 watter in there. But try to get some air movement even if its just blowing hot air around. But need to get freash cool air in if possable
