2009 is here

Postby jackel » Mon Apr 06, 2009 2:54 pm

its spring time, the sun is shining, birds singing. babies fill little rooms, awaiting there journey to there final resting places. i decided to do a few things differently this year than previous ones. ill explain:
first, laws are changing every day it seems. people are getting hit harder every year. so this year im downsizing to stay as safe as possible. im doing my legal ammount of 6 per card. now i technically have 4 cards here, however were only doing 12 + 3 for the other 2 cards. yea im under the limits, should be better off.
secondly, im doing raised beds. After last years run in with Voles, Moles, gophers or whatever it was that destroyed a good few of my plants, i decided to make raised beds with 1/4inch steel mesh on the bottom so the lil fuckers cant come up n chew my shit.
the beds are 3x3 and 1ft deep. i decided instead of going with my cheap organic compost i always do, i was going to run nice expensive Fox Farm happy Frog soil. this soil is good because it already comes with some guanos and microrhyzias in the soil for good root growth. so i mixed in 5 bags per bed (thats 10cubic feet of dirt, approx 50-60gallons per bed).
Also this year im going to go back to seed starts. Normally i grow from clones, and with great results. im still going to do a few clones, but im going to try from seed again and see if it raises my yield due to lower plant numbers.
this years strain line up is the following:
Clones: TGU, Maui, Granddaddy Purple
seeds: Black, TGU x Durga Mata, B39, Dutch Dragon, Skunk #1 x Cali orange
not all of these will make it in the garden, but hopefully a good selection.
Stay tuned as u KNOW i love to post pics.

we talked befor about roots growing throuhg the bottom so you think 1 ft is gunna be deep enough, i was just thinking its alot wider then a grow bag but bags are allmost 2ft deep. width is important but i imagened them deeper then a foot.. i mixed in vermaculite for added water retenchin, gotta mix some more but i also have to buy dirt still for that area. i put some compost down but i need a little more i think maby some w/chicken poo but ill think about it w/a month to go.

things are sounding good, what are the tiemrs set to this far -mine was on 8 hours dark the last week after 24 hours forever, today i set it to 9 hours darkness. -my plants are allmost waist hight allready including pots, but yea compleatly crowding their room. i have to order a box of nutrients too, gunna get some bloom for my spring crop cuz ima use my mixer proportioner and hose/wand feeding by hand. i allready mulched and thought the way you explained was the easiest but i need a fert (age old) that can work in the mixer proportioner and wont clog things up.

not always is deeper better. it depends on ur environment really. the wider the pot, the wider the plant. the deeper the pot, the taller the plant. i dont really need tall plants. actually i prefer shorter ones so prying eyes dont see over fences. short wide plants can yield just as much if not more due to the fact that they have even light dispersement on the canopy.
with seed starts, the taproot will grow through the bottom of my bed and easily pierce the earth below. if it doesnt, it will have plenty of room to snake around. as u know i built my beds over my old holes. old holes with soil still in them. so the roots will grow into the old soil getting all the goodies in there.
since my clones just rooted, they are on 24hour light. i will probably knock them down to 18/6 for a week before planting them but they can go right outside into the natural light cycle from 18/6 on may 10th and be fine. as soon as this rain storm goes away, and i fix my fence, i will be putting seed starts outside to start to grow strong.

OK. so some plans have changed for me. some stuff was swirling around, and i started to rethink my plan of doing seed starts. it was getting into the season already, and i didnt have anything in the ground and was getting a lil edgy. So i decided to put tgu and maui clones in instead of the seed starts. they werent showing except 2 which i did plant (2 tgu x durga mata). So i have like 6 tgu clones, 4 maui, and 2 tgu x durga mata. i have an additional 2 tgu and 1 maui for a relative. total of 15 ladies this yr. no pics at this time, but u all know i will soon. i have a shit ton of weed eating to do in there still.
I decided to water in some microrhizea, Soil builder(has a bunch of good microbes), and some nematodes for good measure. ROOTS ROOTS ROOTS.

ya ive been mixing starterter fertilizer w/water and ill try to get some soluble micorhizea, i might have to specal order that. i was thinking about nematods earlier cause our local nursery has them, might use them undoors too cause ive got dif kinds of bugs in my soil. i have freekin worms on my tgu buds -well their re-vegging but ill get seeds and some hash, their onyl on the tgu it seems. i found some dots of poop the other day and sprayed safers caterpiller killer but still had one i pulled today. ive got visable nice sized seed pods on the tgu, maui, kush, and gdp.

for some reason buterflys or moths like tgu more then any other strain, maby cause it the tallest or its aroma. im going to get ahead of it this year and spray every 10-14 days i cant have the kinda loss i had last year

last year i was lucky and scored a free gallon of vermi T solution from vermicrop organics, i doubt ill find the stuff again soo im thinking more along the lines of down to earth soluble root growth enhanser cause it will add humic acid too. ill use some now and into the fall, i was thinking about this other stuff at worms way called bio kat http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=BC405 also this other stuff called companion http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=COM405 eather way i should do something other then make starter fertilizer tea.
check this out, i would def recomend calling ahead befor ordering any downth to earth root stimulator or most any products that deal with live or suspended organizms. -the longs drug stor i found the 4oz jars at had expiered grandular rootzone, they where out of the bottles of soluble root enhancer soo illprobly look online for the 12ounce bottles -their like 20 bucks.

oK OK, I Know i havent been updating like i normally do. mostly because no one really wants to see vegging plants. its boring. but i been thinking i need to update my thread wit some photos. i decided to get off my ass and do it. heres some photos for yall. in another month or so they should be flowering which means they will get that preflowering push in growth to reach 8ft+/-. hope yall enjoy the photos. the first 2 photos are TGU x Durga Mate from seed. they appear to have the TGU pheno which is what i wanted. but when they flower ill know for sure.
