i just read an article that some connecticut lawmakers are introducing a bill to decriminalize. the paper interviewed a police chief, and ya know what his major arguments were?
1. "what, are officers supposed to carry a scale with them?"
2. "sometimes it leads to solving other major crimes."
so, his reasoning for not changing a law that violates our rights as human beings is that officers have to carry a tiny instrument with them (nope, i really don't think those gas guzzling police cruisers can handle another couple ounces of weight, and i will tell you that none of the fat, lazy, stupid cops in connecticut is going to walk any beat), and that maybe, just maaaayyyyyyybe, it will lead to a coke or heroin bust.
it will sound silly, but its really not all that different, think about it:
"wait, my officers are supposed to carry a device that determines how much a person has had to drink? thats stupid, lets just arrest anyone we think has had anything to drink. oh, and cars should be illegal, because everyone who traffiks drugs uses a car."
