Pics of 1st grow (fixed pics)

Postby Grandrefa » Sat Jul 19, 2008 11:26 pm

Here are a few pictures of my first grow, but I am starting to think something isnt right. I had them planted/sprouted/vegeing under a fluro light for the 1st week.

They have been under the hps light for about a week now (so about 2 weeks old give or take few days) and all I really noticed is on maybe 4 plants the leafs got bigger and you can start to see the next set of leafs develope.

The other plants seem like they are stuck...are the plants to far away from the hps? I dont want to burn them. To many plants in there? And even a few plants look deformed, will get a closeup of all plants when my camera is charged back up.

Image These are the 3 best looking plants out of em all.

These guys are maybe a week old? I know atleast a week younger then my other plants and I still have them 1-2inches under the fluros and they seem to be doing way better.

thats garbage soil. not good for plants. lose the tinfoil, either paint the walls Flat White, or get some Panda Film A.k.a Black/white poly.

So soil is the reason some plants are growing and some arent?

It's miracle grow organic soil btw. I know miracle grow is a nono on these boards but best organic I could find at the stores we have available to us.

And will white posterboard do the same? To much hassle getting back in there and repainting, I built that fake wall, and the inside of my room is still just drywall that isnt sanded nor painted.

It says garden soil indoor/outdoor use on bag. And its weird because up close (ill get some more pics) it actually seems like decent soil, your normal potting soil. Just up close or when it gets lil dry on top it starts looking like mostly woodchips but under that is broken up fine soil, I tried to take most of the woodchip type things out of the soil, kept few figuring it would help with the air flow, but I know you guys are pros im not going against none of your info (would be stupid to) but dont think I can get by first grow with what I have, or start over?

poster board will work, just get rid of that tinfoil. the soil looks like shit, but it will work for now. u will have to transplant in a few weeks ne ways so u can always get a better looking soil for then.

Anybody give me a good recipe to make some good soil? Was going to buy some potting soil, vermiculate, etc. Seen the recipe before but can't seem to find it again. Or even maybe a website that sells a good soil but not to pricey. Having to fill up 6 5gallon containers and 4 2gallon.

Ordered some 5 gallon pots as I am pretty sure my small pots are the reason my plants wont grow, actually killed 1 of my smaller plants to see how the root system was, and ya they are getting cramped already in those small pots heh.

if ur growing them od them u can go to home depot or where ever and buy a big ole bag of organic choice miracle grow for like 6-7 dollars but if u wanna have enough mix for all those pots ur gonna need a bag of perlite and a bag or 2 of organic potting mix to go along with it. i used that mix before but my plants seemed to have a nasty chemical reaction when they went outside(they did just fine id) but i think that it was because i had mixed chemical potting mix with organic top soil. but then again idk.. it was weird, it had all the perlite it needed but i think it could have been too much top soil as well. idk. but now i just stick to plain potting mix cuz u cant seem to go wrong with it.

That is what I am currently using atm the Miracle Grow Organic blend and some of you guys said it looked shitty to use. If I just go get some basic organic potting soil how much vermiculate and/or perlitie would I put in it? And anything else I would need to blend with it?

Pretty much need a recipe with measurments and all heh, I am a noob if you cant tell!

And I am growing indoors.

im not talkin about the blend. if you go in the gardening section they should have racks of huge bags of soil, the soil is really compact and it has to be broken up and mixed with perlite its not the best stuff to use but it gits the job done. and u mix about 2 cups of perlite for each gallon of dirt. and if u can they definately git a cubic ft of potting mix and just mix about 2 1/2 parts top soil with perlite with 1 1/2 part of the potting mix.

So just need the perilite and some potting soil then? No sand, or vermiculate or anything like that either?

u dont need to add more perlite to mixed soils in my opinion. i prefer Happy Frog soil. or fox farm ocean forest, or black gold, light warrior, Sunshine Mix.
