Planting NOW

I get that its a little late in the season to plant, but I'm not looking to grow anything enormous. My question is: is it worth my initial investment to plant now? Also, can anyone link me a chart of light/dark outdoor times please?

I'm also posed with another issue...I don't have a place to dry them. I don't own a shed and I can't let me other roommates know that I'm doing this.
