Green Slime

I have a drip system and have successfully grown 1 crop I start my seedlings in a small green house with rock-wool but my last three batches developed a green slime just on the top of the rock-wool I was told this would destroy the plants so I disposed of them I am using older rock-wool maybe 3 years old could this be causing the problem, any ideas
