sounds like ur doing an ebb n flow system which would require a submersible pump not an air pump

the timer i have atm has 1/2 hr. im my research most people said 2 to 15 mins. is the normal flood time and drain for 45 mins. - 4 hours. if i can use the 1/2 hour timer will i have to increase the drain time? or just get a different timer?

today i started to setup my ebb and flow system (home made). i did a test flood and when it drains there is about a 1/4 inch of water that remains in the tray due to it being a flat bottom tray. my pots (im using 5 1/2 square pots not mesh syle just hole in the bottom) are suspended about a 1/4 inch above the water that remains in the tray. will this cause any issues?

how are they suspended in an ebb n flow setup? take a pic of the setup as im not totally sure i get it. sounds more like a wierd hybrid setup.
also u need more holes in ur pots. take a drill and a 3/16ths bit or something and just drill a bunch of holes in them.

ill takesome pics tonight. im using a 6 inch deep by 2.5ft x 1.5ft plastic storage bin with a fill and an overflow and a lid i cut 6 square holes in the lid to hold the pots in place. i did just have them sitting in the bin with no lid but figured i could use the lid as a light sheild. to protect the roots from the lights and to prohibit alge growth because of the water that remains in the bottom.
